Major problem with Ares connecting
There is a major problem in the air as users of older version of Ares – Ares Galaxy included – have trouble in getting Ares connected. The problem with Ares not connecting is not a new one. Unfortunately the only sure-fire solution is to change your version of Ares: Ares Ultimate and Ares Vista do the trick just nicely.
But why is Ares not connecting properly? Those in the know tell me that it is related to a bug in the way older versions of Ares are programmed: this bug means that Ares ‘forgets’ which were the last known ‘good’ (i.e. connectable) IPs. Without these initial ’seed’ IPs Ares struggles to make that initial connection; without them, there is the problem of Ares not connecting on startup.
Later versions of Ares do solve this programming error, and it’s a surprise really that Ares Galaxy never got around to fixing such a fundamental error.
Ares Galaxy was a great piece of software in its day but it simply hasn’t moved with the times like it needed to. This problem with Ares not connecting is simply indicative of the laisser-faire approach taken by the original developers that has allowed newer versions to really make a big difference and improve.
